Astro Bot: 10 Best Levels, Ranked

There has been a lot of talk about which games will be chosen as game of the year come December. Games like Black Myth Wukong and Final Fantasy Rebirth They are already a safe bet, but it seems that a new contender has just entered the race, as Astrobotthe platform mascot successor to Astro’s game roomhas left both fans and critics speechless.

There are a lot of reasons why fans love spending time with Astrobot. The soundtrack is catchy, the visuals are sublime, and the Dualsense controller is at the heart of the game’s design.

But for me, the highlights come from the many unique worlds that punctuate this epic platformer. But you might be wondering which of these are the coolest of all.

Well, let me give you a summary of the best levels that Astrobot has to offer.

10

bubbling underneath

penguin jets

In general, when it comes to video games, we players have very little time for underwater levels. But there are some exceptions to the rule, and Bubbling Under is definitely one of them.

This is partly due to the fact that you are not permanently underwater, but also because the power of the Penguin Jet makes swimming and traversing places wetter, more dynamic and fluid.

It’s a pleasure to use your jets to climb waterfalls, dive into nearby pools of water, and exploring the underwater playground that Astro Bot offers is as wonderful as any land-based level.

At the end of the day, it’s still a water level and will therefore never be a number one contender, but as far as water levels go, this is a masterclass in sandbox level design.

Clock in slow motion

As someone who absolutely adores the original.l cunning cooper game, this seemed like a true love letter to Boneyard Casino, and I was here to hear it.

However, the key difference between Sly and Astro’s respective levels is that Astro has the power to manipulate time, allowing you to slow it down to make platforming a breeze.

Not only can you stop fast-moving platforms and fast-spinning roulette wheels. You will also be able to use this power to make winning at slot machines trivial and use various enemy attacks against them.

It’s an aesthetically and mechanically fantastic level, and if you dig deep, you might find the famous raccoon thief.

Friend mugging

World

Serpent Star Route

On

Nathan Drake’s gun

Due to the large amount of fan service and effort that has gone into the design of the various PlayStation IP-themed levels, you would think that these five levels would monopolize the top spots.

However, one of them definitely doesn’t have the same level of detail, unique mechanical tricks, and fun factor, and that is the Uncharted themed level, Dude Raiding.

Now, don’t get us wrong. Being able to shoot a gun and take out the bad guys is fun. hunting for Jak and Daxter-The inspired Precursor eggs were clean. Plus, swinging from ropes and running away from giant enemies in custom scenes is fun, too.

However, it felt much more in line with the standard levels that punctuate the overall experience, making this a good level, but the weakest final level.

Funk Trunk

elephant piglet

There are some power-ups in Astrobot I really feel like I don’t get enough screen time, and the Elephant Piglet power-up is definitely one of those.

The ability to create your own platforms is a fun mechanic that allows for spacious, open platforming sections, and this all culminates in a fun, if a little easy, boss battle at the end of the level.

However, some may argue that the best parts of this level occur right at the beginning, in the mini-sandbox area, where you can play golf, meet one of the cutest cows in video game history, and you can also meet Papa Tree.

It’s just a very bright, vibrant, fun level filled with a variety of fun little details. Making it featured to play Astrobot.

N/A

I’m a big fan of games with a solid day and night cycle, and I equally love games that allow you to reverse dimensions and perspectives to offer new avenues to explore.

This is something that the Astro Bot Luna Sola level combines to brilliant effect, leading to a game that feels like Astro Bot is doing a very commendable impression of Fez.

Phil Fish, being the grumpy guy that he is, probably won’t give Team Asobi any praise, but we do because this is a fantastic level.

It’s not huge in terms of scale, but due to the intricate design and use of space, it feels like a sizeable and detailed level that’s worth its weight in gold.

Plus, because of the ridiculous soundtrack and cartoonish visuals, it feels like a carefree game full of fantasy. Day or night, rain or shine, one thing is certain: our love for this level will never waver.

Reduced surprise

Good things come in small packages

Shrinking mouse in reduced size Astro Surprise

shrinking mouse

Speaking of levels that make the most of a small space, we have my favorite level that isn’t directly based on a PlayStation IP.

Downsize Surprise seems pretty simple at first, but when you get to powering up the mouse, you understand the nuances, scale, and finer details hiding in plain sight.

Downsizing allows you to explore hard-to-reach areas and naturally find the secrets hidden in all those corners.

It’s a sublime level design that shows that size does matter and shows what can be done with very limited space. With many small and big tricks that make every little discovery satisfying.

The only criticism I have about this level is that there aren’t more like it, but that ensures that this one stands out as memorable and special.

4

war robot

BOY!

War Bot Kratos Astro Bot

World

tentacle system

On

Krato’s Leviathan Ax

Some may have seen Kratos’ modern story as a softer, happier, more emotionally charged version of Kratos. However, it would be hard to argue against his inclusion in Astro Bot being the cuter, cuter version of the god-killing Spartan.

Bot of War is a God of War-themed level that lets you take on the role of Kratos, wielding his iconic Lethiathian ax as your own and exploring the frigid level that the GoW cast calls home.

There are tons of fun references to the beloved PlayStation IP, allowing you to meet Jörmungandr, take out Odin’s Ravens on the fly, and much more. The only thing missing is Mimir hanging off your butt, but we can forgive that small omission.

The only downside is that the boss at the end is a bit disappointing and you can’t row a boat around the map, but the epic GOW soundtrack playing in the background makes up for it a bit. So if you are a fan of Kratos and his team, this is a must-play.

Loose Apes

If you haven’t noticed all the various robots you collected in your Astrobot adventure, the PlayStation roster is something of a graveyard for amazing mascot platformers, and Ape Escape is one of those criminally underrated and forgotten gems.

We may never have a new one ape escape epic in its entirety, but we get an incredible taste of what could be in Apes on the Loose, which is a nostalgic look at the past. ape escape format.

You’ll get the iconic radar to force those cheeky monkeys out of hiding, and you’ll get a big net to scoop them up in this sandbox environment.

It’s a level that shows how much pure fun ape escape was and still is. So if you want to relive the past, be sure to check this one out.

Aloy’s bow and arrow

It’s strange, I knew exactly what to expect when I jumped Astrobots Horizon themed level. I knew there would be traditional archery mechanics, I knew I would hide in tall grass to avoid the Watchers, and I knew I would need to climb a giant Tallneck at some point.

However, despite knowing the script, I was still captivated by this amazing world, full of details and references.

The archery mechanics are precise and responsive, the visuals are on par with Horizonand you probably hinted at what the Lego adaptation of Horizon would look like, and you had brief underwater sections to give it some love. Forbidden Westwhich you didn’t really get at the time of release.

It’s a level that reminds us how excellent the Horizon franchise is.. With a remaster on the way, it might be a good time to revisit the unique apocalypse..

going crazy

roll with the punches

Astro Bot goes to crazy level

World

cosmos camouflage

On

Loco-Roco rolling

I’m not going to fool you, this major election is full of personal bias. But it’s my list, so if you want to fight me we can meet again in the comments.

Crazy Roco is an underrated and genuinely charming 2D platformer that offers wholesome vibes galore, and that’s exactly what you get from Going Loco, the Locomotive Roco-thematic level in Astrobot.

This, since it couldn’t be 2D, is definitely the biggest departure from the source material, but in the best way possible.

You still have the ability to separate and reform your little blobs to get through certain areas, you can still jump onto cracked walls to find secret paths, and you have the awesome Crazy Roco soundtrack to move your head as you go.

But thanks to the 3D version of the iconic PSP title, the level plays out like a mix of Crazy Roco and Super Monkey Ball. Which, if you had any doubt, is an incredible combination. It is the best level by far and you will not convince me otherwise.
