The Otsutsuki Clan was seen as a very strange addition to the naruto universe. This clan was properly introduced to the fans in the last segment of Naruto, and later on many answers about this clan were provided to the fans, in Boruto. Of course, much about this clan is still a secret, which means that as Boruto continues, its history is also being explored.
However, it can now be safely said that the Otsutsuki have established themselves as a powerful group of villains, and at the same time, fans know quite a bit about their past, their nature, and how they continue their line. Boruto creator Mikio Ikemoto recently had the chance to talk about Otsutsuki, and he certainly had a lot of interesting things to say about them and their appearance in the Naruto and Boruto series.

The Otsutsuki clan was introduced to fans in the second half of Naruto. In the big room
War, Naruto Uzumaki met the Sage of the Six Paths, Hagoromo. However, the Otsutsuki that fans saw first, namely Hagoromo, was still separated from the clan itself. This is because Hagaromo was half-human, as Kaguya had a child with a human on planet Earth, and ended up giving birth to him and his brother, Hamura. Up until that point, the story was pretty sensible.

However, with the resurgence of Kaguya Otsutsuki, things became a bit complicated. Essentially, Kaguya was revealed to be a celestial being who came to Earth a long time ago and was the progenitor of chakra. At this point, fans had a whole new world of questions running through their heads. Where exactly did Kaguya come from? Are there others like Kaguya out there? What exactly is the origin of Otsutsuki? These were just some of the questions fans had after Kaguya’s big reveal as Naruto’s biggest villain.
Eventually, Kaguya Otsutsuki was sealed away again, but it was clear to fans to see that Kishimoto wanted to play with the idea of Otsutsuki even more. In The Last: Naruto the Movie, Toneri Otsutsuki was revealed as the main villain and it was revealed that he was a descendant of Hamura.
Continuing in a similar vein, in Boruto: Naruto the Movie, which was also written by Kishimoto, Momoshiki and Kinshiki were revealed as the main villains, and once again, these celestial beings were seen searching for chakra. In the Naruto series, the Otsutsuki clan was poorly explained, and this was to be expected, because they came out of nowhere at the end and essentially felt like half-baked plot points. In Boruto, this plot point may not be interesting, but at least fans now know a lot about them, their history, where they come from, and what their goal is.

In it Boruto In the series, fans have been able to see a lot about the Otsutsuki Clan in general. Recently, Boruto author Mikio Ikemoto had the opportunity to talk about Boruto and Naruto in general, and took the opportunity to answer a question about the Otsutsuki Clan. When asked about Otsutsuki, this is what he said:
In Naruto, Otsutsuki’s origins are not explained. But for me they were aliens from the beginning. After the Great Shinobi Wars, we push the boundaries of the universe to find new antagonists. We did tests with other human characters, but the result was not convincing.
Essentially, Ikemoto mentioned that the Otsutsuki were always seen as Celestial Beings, even if their origin was not explained in Naruto. For Boruto, there were probably many drafts of who the main villains would be.
It is likely that many ninjas were also part of these drafts, but the results they produced were not convincing enough, so they were left with the parasitic aliens of the Otsutsuki Clan. This also makes sense in a way, since the shinobi villages were now united for the first time and there would be no wars between them.
However, that certainly doesn’t mean that bad people would cease to exist. If Kishimoto and Ikemoto had wanted to, they could have easily introduced many powerful villains from the ninja world and in doing so, they could have kept the ninja element of the story alive. Anyway, Otsutsuki’s plot, while not interesting to many, is here to stay and fans will surely see it explored more in the future.
The future of Otsutsuki in Boruto
The Otsutsuki will only get stronger
So far, fans have seen quite a bit of the Otsutsuki Clan in Boruto already. For example, fans know that the Otsutsuki are alien parasites. They feed on the energy of a planet and their ultimate goal is divinity. Essentially, each Otsutsuki travels with a companion and carries with them a seed of the Ten-Tails. They go to a planet and plant the seed of the Ten-Tails, which then grows into a Divine Tree. The God tree bears fruit, which contains the life of the planet, and is essentially the fruit of the chakra. To grow this tree, the lowest-ranking Otsutsuki of the pair feeds the Ten-Tails. To avoid permanent death, the Otsutsuki that is eaten plants its own Karma on someone before being consumed and is then resurrected. Meanwhile, the Otsutsuki can consume the chakra fruit and gain additional strength.
This is how the Otsutsuki continue to get stronger over time and are essentially, in a way, immortal. In simple words, the Otsutsuki are planet devourers, which means there is infinite potential for this clan to continue in Boruto. So far, fans have seen many exciting Otsutsuki introduced in the Boruto series, such as Momoshiki, Isshiki, and most of all, Shibai. The latter is Otsutsuki’s future in Boruto. This is because he is the only Otsutsuki known so far to have managed to advance to Godhood. He consumed so many chakra fruits that he left his body behind and ascended to a completely different plane of existence. Perhaps, in the future, Shibai will be seen as the main villain, which would certainly be very exciting for fans to see.
Now, there are villains who have Shibai powers, and it would certainly be incredibly exciting to see what they are capable of, how they will affect the plot, and how the Ninja World will be shaped by their presence. This, along with many other things, will be addressed in the future in the Boruto series.
