The appearance of Red Hulk may hint at possible twists in the film.
Since Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 with The incredible Hulk, fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Red Hulk. Rumors have circulated for years that the character would appear in various projects, but it is finally confirmed that Red Hulk will make his debut in Captain America: Brave New World. Having been teased in the film’s early marketing stages, it seems like the character will be important to the overall story.
However, since Marvel Studios is so open with Red Hulk’s appearance in Captain America: Brave New WorldDoes that mean it’s just a hint of what awaits us? Marvel is known for its secrecy, so the fact that Red Hulk has already been shown in marketing elements of the film seems to suggest that perhaps Marvel has another twist up its sleeve. So what kind of surprise could the studio be planning?

Red Hulk has been featured in marketing
When it comes to marketing, Marvel Studios knows what they’re doing. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is careful about what is revealed in marketing materials and wants to have as many surprises on hand for fans once the project debuts. This is something we have seen more recently with Deadpool and Wolverine, a movie full of Easter eggs and guest stars that are sure to delight audiences. The studio made the decision to show one of the apparitions, Dafne Keen, as X-23 in the film’s final trailer, knowing it was just a tease for the rest of the film. It was also a decision that Feige thought about carefully, as he stated that he felt the surprise would be ruined when the actress appeared at the premiere, so they decided to show Laura in the trailer so that Keen would attend the film’s premiere without problems. It was a surprising move for the studio, especially considering how well-known Marvel Studios is for trying to maintain a sense of secrecy. However, it looks like the studio is starting to pull back the curtain a little more on its future releases, as it’s already teased Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk in the first trailer and poster for Captain America: Brave New World.
The studio upped the ante with its Red Hulk marketing when it introduced Ford along with the rest of the cast during the studio’s presentation in Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to Ford teasing what he looks like in the film, Feige revealed exclusive images from the film that showed Red Hulk’s face for the first time. Given that the trailer only gave a brief glimpse of Red Hulk, avoiding showing the character’s face, it was a surprising move on Marvel’s part. Something that could suggest that Red Hulk might not be the biggest surprise of the film, despite being a fundamental piece of the marketing so far. The question, however, is what could Marvel Studios have in store that’s bigger than Red Hulk? We know The Leader is returning, and while the character hasn’t been physically teased yet, he spoke briefly in the trailer and actor Tim Blake Nelson was on hand at Comic-Con to tease his long-awaited return to Marvel. With two major characters set to appear in the film, what else could the film have planned?
What other twist could there be behind Red Hulk?
Captain America: Brave New World It will mark Ross’ return since the unfortunate passing of actor William Hurt two years ago. With a star like Ford set to take on the role, and Red Hulk confirmed to appear, it seems likely that the character will play a major role in the project. But could there be something more to Red Hulk’s appearance? Ross appears to be an antagonist, judging by the trailer and marketing so far. However, with Sidewinder and Giancarlo Esposito’s The Leader also on board, is it possible there could be a twist with Red Hulk at the end of the film? An actor like Ford is a huge coup for Marvel Studios, and the film seems to have captured the spy thriller aesthetic of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. One theory suggests Marvel Studios could try to tackle the Gamma Corps with brave new world. If that’s the case, it would make sense that the studio openly showed Red Hulk in the film’s marketing. It would also explain why Marvel finally opted to bring back The Leader after sixteen years.
As Marvel looks to ramp up marketing for brave new world, we can only hope that we start to get a better idea of what the studio has planned for Red Hulk. Yes, Ross seeks to use Captain America as a military tool. But could Ross also be part of the reason the Avengers finally get back together before Avengers: Judgment Day? According to Captain America himself, Anthony Mackie, brave new world It has nothing to do with the story told in The incredible Hulk. Despite this, the film appears to have big implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, as it will introduce Adamantium and the Serpent Society. Either way, whatever brave new world has in store for Red Hulk, it seems likely to be big.
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
