When it comes to Hollywood productions, reshoots are usually scheduled in advance. Most of the time, these retakes are minor. In the case of Captain America: Brave New WorldHowever, the Marvel Studios film underwent massive reshoots that brought in a new writer to tweak the rewrites ahead of reshoots earlier this year. While it’s unclear what changed during those rewrites, the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World suggests that the new shots could have benefited the project.
The film has faced a lot of criticism from fans who were not very impressed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So naturally, when it was revealed that the film would have to undergo massive rewrites, many wondered if the film was a disaster behind the scenes. Now, with the official trailer released, it looks like the new shots managed to help the film capture the feeling of Captain America previous movies, and that’s definitely a good thing.

Captain America: Brave New World is the successor to the Disney+ limited series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which Sam Wilson fought to become Captain America. That series also had its own problems, resulting in reshoots to try to fix the series in post-production. Unfortunately, however, the rewrites didn’t seem to help the series much, as they were often hailed as uneven and lacking a solid story. Reports suggested that the series had a pandemic storyline that needed to be adjusted after COVID-19. However, with a tight release schedule and real-life pandemic restrictions, the series failed to juggle the many stories it attempted to tell across six episodes. Even though fans were excited to see Sam Wilson take on the Captain America moniker and sport Steve’s iconic shield, many were left confused as to why Marvel Studios sought to bring back the writers behind the Disney+ series for write a fourth. When the first footage was shown at Cinema Con, it seemed like the studio had managed to fix the film’s mistakes, with many stating that the footage was good. What changed in the new shots?
It is unknown what exactly changed with the new shots. Captain America: Brave New World. However, it appears that at least one character has been added, as actor Giancarlo Esposito joined the production earlier this year. He will appear as Sidewinder in the film, the leader of the Serpent Society in the comics. The Serpent Society was always expected to be a part of the film, with Rosa Salazar set to play Diamondback in the film. However, the addition of Esposito seems to suggest that the Serpent Society will be a bit more important to the film. Especially since it’s been said that the film had to cut three important scenes, which was part of the reason for the massive reshoots. This was the result of negative ratings at early screenings of the film. Matthew Orton, who worked at Marvel Studios Moon Knight, was the man the studio selected to help write the rewrites for the new takes. Orton wrote the episode “Asylum”, which remains one of the highest-rated episodes of the series with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
While Moon Knight is not one of Marvel Studios’ highest-rated projects, the series was much more cohesive than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hiring an up-and-coming writer like Orton, who managed to write a fantastic piece of television for the studio, was a smart move. Is something The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was missing, and that Captain America: Brave New World needed to successfully launch Sam Wilson’s first big screen adventure as the star-spangled hero. The reshoots may have been extensive, but from the looks of it, the film seems to have benefited from them in the end.
