Canara Bank is looking to recruit a Chief Economist for its head office in Bengaluru, targeting candidates between the ages of 35 and 55 with knowledge of economics, econometrics and knowledge of the banking and finance sectors. Key qualifications involve a Master’s degree in Economics/Econometrics, preferably with a PhD, and at least a decade of experience as an economist in banks, financial institutions or academia.

Job Specific Skills

Educational qualification and experience.
Qualification:
- Master’s degree in Economics/Econometrics from a renowned Indian/foreign university.
Desirable:
- Doctorate in Economics from a recognized University.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience as an economist in a commercial bank/financial institution or other reputable companies/agencies/corporate organizations.
- Alternatively, experience as an economics professor/professor at a college/university will be considered.
- Combined experience as an economist and in teaching is also accepted.
Desirable:
- Excellent communication skills demonstrated through active participation in economic forums.
- Contribution to notable publications will be valued.
Publication place
Canara Bank’s head office is located in Bengaluru. However, the Bank retains the authority to assign the executive to any office or location based on the needs of the Bank.
Salary details
The remuneration will be linked to the market and will not hinder the selection of a suitable candidate; It is negotiable. The hired executive will be responsible for income tax, professional tax and any other taxes or legal obligations.
Selection process
- The selection process will include selection, pre-selection and/or interview/interaction. Depending on the number and scope of applications received, the Bank reserves the right to determine the selection modalities.
- Selection and shortlisting will be based on the eligibility criteria, qualifications, suitability and experience submitted with the application. Only candidates who meet the required criteria will be called for an interview/interaction.
- The candidature after preliminary selection, without document verification, will be provisional and subject to verification of all details and documents with the originals during personal interaction (if called).
- Selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in the interview, ranked on merit. The interview will be scored out of 100, with a minimum passing score of 70.
- Only candidates who qualify for personal interaction/interview and rank high enough in the merit list will be considered for the final selection.
- The hiring of the selected candidate is subject to his/her being declared medically fit as per the requirements of the Bank.
- The decisions of the Bank on matters relating to eligibility, selection, etc., are final and binding. The Bank will not accept any representation or correspondence regarding these matters.

- Graduation/Postgraduate Certificates
- Certificates of other qualifications, if any.
- Copy of certification as stipulated in Eligibility Criteria – Educational Qualification
- Copies of experience certificates specifying job designation/profile, period of service (with specific dates) from previous and current employers. Work experience certificates must include designation, period of service and detailed work profile.
- Candidates currently employed in government or quasi-government offices, PSUs including nationalized banks and financial institutions are required to provide a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their employer at the time of interview/interaction.
- Retired candidates must submit a copy of the relief order/Discharge Certificate.
- A copy of the resume uploaded at the time of online registration.
- Any other relevant document that is considered necessary or requested by the Bank.
