The Targaryen dragons will become a casualty of the kingdom-wide civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. As seen in Dragon House – Season 2, the Black Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen struck back after failing to sue for peace in King’s Landing. She traveled to the capital with Ser Steffon Darklyn and begged Alicent Hightower to prevent war. The latter refused and Rhaenyra returned to Dragonstone, undoing weeks of inaction.

New Dragons and Their Dragon Riders in House Of The Dragon Season 2
As season 2 of HBO’s House of the Dragon nears its summer 2024 release date, these are the dragons and dragon riders about to debut.
War with dragons is risky because the dragons will set the kingdom on fire, and dangerous because the Black and Green will potentially lose most of them, leading to a change in the status quo with respect to other Great and Minor Houses in the Seven Kingdoms. In it Dragon HouseAlicent gives two cents about the emergence of a brutal war and says: “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.” Although Alicent modestly omits that the Targaryen dragons will die, it turns out that some will still take to the skies of Westeros at the end of the Dance.
Updated August 4, 2024 by Bisma Fida: season 2 of Dragon House It’s not really a true adaptation of George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood. He has preserved certain elements of the story and altered most of the events and their chronology. So far, Rhaenyra has lost Arrax and Meleys, but Got Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke.. she must win the wild dragon called Sheepstealer through Rhaena Targaryen and not through Nettles’ efforts. Dragon House Season 2 borrows the story fragments and adds interesting dimensions to the dragon story. This list has been updated to include those changes.
1
the cannibal
The Wild Dragon of Dragonstone
The Cannibal, as its name suggests, preys on dragons and the like in Dragonstone. The wild dragon lives during the Dance of the Dragons, and because none of the Dragonseeds attempt to tame it during the Sowing of the Seeds, it remains riderless until the end.
The residents of Dragonstone fear the Cannibal and the popular theory is that he lived on the island long before Targaryen colonization found a foothold among the little people of said island. If this were true, then the serpentine beast is older than the oldest living dragon in Westeros during the Dance: Vhagar and Vermithor. The Cannibal was completely discarded from the Sowing in Dragon House. However, in the story, when Silver Denys, Dragonseed, loses his arm while trying to claim Sheepstealer, the Cannibal appears on the scene and preys on him and his children.
How does the cannibal survive the dance of the dragons in the story?
The Cannibal remained riderless throughout his life, and no one dared to look for him, much less try to ride him. He continued to live in his natural habitat. He disappeared after the Ball, but tradition does not reveal how.
2
sheep thief
The Second Wild Dragon of Dragonstone
Like Cannibal, Sheepstealer inspires fear and is indomitable until “a skinny brunette girl” named Nettles arrives on the scene. Sheepstealer’s history has changed radically, much to the chagrin of Martin, who writes in his It’s not a blog page:
My dragons are predators, carnivores who like their meat. They can and will hunt their own prey, but they are also territorial. They have lairs. As creatures of the sky, they like mountain tops, and especially volcanic mountains.
Martin is upset by Dragon House writers who had Sheepstealer fly to the Valley in search of food shortly after the Dance of the Dragons began. Sheepstealer lives in Dragonstone in the lore and is mainly present in the back of Dragonmont. The wild dragon usually hunts its prey between Driftmark and Wendwater.
Yes, the sheep thief loves the lamb and devours the sheepdog, but as Martin pointed out, the dragon is not “nomadic.” He adds:
Think about it. If the dragons were nomadic, they would have overrun half of Essos, and Doom would have only killed a few of them. Likewise, the dragons of Westeros rarely stray far from Dragonstone.

House of the Dragon: quotes that summarize the dance of the dragons
The Dance of Dragons is the central theme of House of the Dragon, and the following memorable quotes from the series sum it up perfectly.
The sheep thief’s rider, Nettles, is cut from Dragon House‘s canon, and it is likely that Rhaena Targaryen will claim the dragon in the Vale. Rhaena remained in the Vale after Rhaenyra’s children left the kingdom to take up their posts in Gay Abandon. He had discovered the dragon’s presence in the Vale and had questioned Lady Jeyne Arryn about it. Rhaena was a little disappointed to learn that it was a wild dragon, but she was not willing to give up on becoming a dragon rider. She looks for the usual signs of Sheepstealer, namely scorched earth and charred bones outside the Eyrie. Martin, however, has a different opinion about Sheepstealer’s nomadic movement:
The three wild dragons mentioned in Fire and blood have lairs in Dragonstone. The rest can be found in King’s Landing’s Dragonpit or in deep caverns beneath Dragonmont. Luke takes Arrax to Storm’s End and Jace to Winterfell, yes, but the dragons wouldn’t have flown there alone except under very special circumstances. You will not find dragons hunting in the riverlands, the Reach, or the Vale, nor roaming the northern lands or the mountains of Dorne.
How does Sheepstealer survive the dance of the dragons in the story?
Nettles rides Sheepstealer in the Battle of Gullet and the capture of King’s Landing. However, the duo leave after two Dragonseeds named Ulf and Hugh betray Rhaenyra’s faction at the First Battle of Tumbleton. Rumors that Nettles is having an illicit relationship with the king consort, Daemon Targaryen, in Maidenpool prompt Rhaenyra to demand his head. Dubbed a traitor, Nettles flies away on Sheepstealer’s back. Although reports of occasional sightings are heard, Sheepstealer and his rider leave the scene of war forever.

silver wing
Does not participate in the second battle of Tumbleton
Silverwing is a Targaryen dragon, once ridden by the Wise King Jaehaerys’ sister and wife, Alysanne. A dragoness, Silverwing, and Jaehaerys’ Vermithor often swooped and spun in the skies. Silverwing, as its name suggests, is silver in color and is friendly and docile.

New houses in House Of The Dragon Season 2
In addition to the new characters, viewers can also expect to see some new Houses appear during the second season of House of the Dragon.
Ulf is the rider of Silverwing in the source material and on the show. Ulf meets Silverwing in her lair and she lets him ride her. He then flies to King’s Landing to incite the Greens, especially Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen. In Martin’s source material, Silverwing and Ulf land on Rhaenys Hill after the fall of King’s Landing. The dragon builds a lair in the Dragonpit. Shortly afterward, Ulf betrays the Blacks and sets fire to Tumbleton.
How does Silverwing survive the dance of the dragons in the story?
Worried about the repercussions of the betrayal, Ulf resides in Tumbleton and Silverwing remains outside the city walls. In the Second Battle of Tumbleton, Addam Velaryon atop Seasmoke ambushes the Hightowers. While Ulf sleeps in the commotion, Silverwing fires. She survives, but Vermithor, Seasmoke and Tessarion are killed in battle. Silverwing is left riderless after Ser Hobert Hightower poisons Ulf. Silverwing accepts no other rider and remains wild and free. He has his lair in the northwest of Reach.

Tomorrow
Rhaena’s dragon in history
Morning is the last of the four dragons to survive the family feud. The dragon is Lady Rhaena’s mount in lore and was born during the war in the Vale of Arryn. Rhaena is raised in the Eyrie, where she prays for dragon eggs to hatch. Rhaena will ride Sheepstealer, leaving less room for Morning’s existence in the television continuity.
How does morning survive the dance of the dragons in the story?
It is at the end of the Ball that Lady Rhaena, Morning, and Lady Jeyne Arryn set sail from Gulltown for King’s Landing. The little people of the capital are delighted to see Morning fly overhead, as she is a reminder of the height of Targaryen glory and is the last of his ilk. Rhaena’s brother, Aegon the Younger (Aegon III), can’t stand the sight of dragons, but takes pride in his saddle. The morning he builds a lair in the Dragonpit and Rhaena loves the dragon chair.
