Jujutsu Kaisen It concluded recently and left many questions unanswered. There are many story lines that fans were absolutely delighted to see conclude and receive a satisfying ending, while many others were left incomplete or in a state of ruin. Clearly, the author’s health took its toll in the final arc of Jujutsu Kaisenbut despite that, fans got a somewhat reasonable ending to their series. Although opinion has always been divided on JJK In the end, fans, at the very least, hoped that several intriguing bits of information from the story would be adequately developed or explained.
One of the many characters who was not treated properly in JJK’s Final Saga was none other than Uraume. Unfortunately, Uraume was very disappointing in the final segment of the story, and fans would have loved to see more attention paid to this character. Among the many things that were not addressed by the author about this individual was also his gender, which has ultimately not been confirmed.
Uraume and Sukuna’s connection
Uraume and Sukuna share a deep connection since the Heian era
Uraume and Sukuna are two of the most influential characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans got to see them play an exciting role in the story together, especially in the final arc of the story. Uraume was reincarnated, as was Sukuna, and this individual’s strength was certainly magnificent, to say the least. The control they showed over cursed ice-related techniques was absolutely sensational, and fans got to see it firsthand in Shibuya. It became clear to fans that Uraume shared a very strong bond with Sukuna. In fact, his loyalty to Sukuna remained even after a reincarnation was agreed upon. However, the reincarnation process was strictly different from what Sukuna did. While Sukuna became a cursed object, Uraume’s reincarnation was similar to those who participated in the Culling Game in the modern era. Despite a completely new body, this individual’s strength was still absolutely excellent.
As far as his bond with Sukuna was concerned, it was certainly unbreakable. Towards the end of JJK, fans got a proper look at her relationship with Sukuna, and it became clear to fans that they shared a very touching relationship. It almost seemed as if Uruame was Sukuna’s little brother, or even a child. Sukuna, who absolutely despised the concept of love, always showed deep care towards Uraume, and that certainly adds depth to his character, as well as Uraume’s. It also explains why Uraume was always loyal to Sukuna until the end and was even willing to give his own life for this cause. Of course, fans were left completely disappointed by the ending Uraume received, and a lot about this character was left unanswered in the story, including her gender.
Gege clears up the mystery behind Uraume’s gender
Gege confirms that Uruame was originally a man
Gege designed the character of Uraume in a way where it was difficult for anyone to tell if she was male or female. Of course, even if they leaned more towards either one, that certainly wouldn’t have been a confirmation of their gender anyway. As such, fans needed proper confirmation from the author and this character to be developed in the story, given his relationship with Sukuna as his number 2. Unfortunately, that never happened and the series ended up destroying any potential Uraume had.
Still, for what it’s worth, Uraume’s gender was finally addressed in the additional information that came with JJK Volume 27. Now, it has finally been made clear to fans that Uraume was actually a man born in the Heian era, who was later reincarnated into a female body in the modern era, thanks to Kenjaku. This is what Gege had to say about this individual:
The names of the Culling Game players are unified under the names of the humans they were before reincarnating. This is because those affected by the Curse of the Selection Game are the bodies, not the cursed objects themselves. So when Kenjaku didn’t call Hazenoki by his real name (?), Hazenoki felt a sense of awkwardness and thought, ‘You know my name.’
Uraume was originally a man, but due to a contract with Kenjaku, they were reincarnated into a female body (Himi Shiori)… Maybe I mentioned this somewhere?
Uraume was clearly born as a man a long time ago. Now, this has finally been clarified by the author. However, it would have been much better if the author included it in the actual manga. Unfortunately, the author’s worsening health, especially during the final segment of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, forced many plot points to have to be shortened, and several battles, including the main fight that was occurring at the time, which is That is, the fight between Yuta and Sukuna also had to suffer.
How Gege failed Uraume in the end
Uruame was a wasted character in Jujutsu Kaisen
Among the many things that Gege failed to achieve at the end of J.K. was delivering the proper conclusion to Uraume. Fans saw Uraume fight Kinji Hakari in the Shinjuku Showdown arc. Unfortunately, the author didn’t even care enough to elaborate on this fight. Fans got to see two or three panels of this battle across over a year of action, but that was it. Other than that, readers didn’t get to see anything of Uraume at all.
Fans were eagerly waiting to see Uraume and Hakari engage in a high-level battle, but that never came. This destroyed not only Hakari’s reputation but also Uraume’s. In the end, Uraume essentially self-destructed after Sukuna was defeated, simply because there was no reason for them to be alive anymore. That being said, Uraume also clarified to Hakari that it was their luck that allowed them to win. If it hadn’t been a reincarnated body for Sukuna, there was absolutely no way he would have lost to Yuji.
Don’t be mistaken. You only won thanks to Master Sukuna’s incarnate state. – Uraume
However, it’s safe to say that Uraume’s ending was incredibly disappointing, with the character essentially ruined and still one of the most disappointing in all of JJK. Hopefully, in volume 28, the author will add bits and pieces of Uraume’s character, either through additional information or through additions to the chapters themselves. But, as things stand, its conclusion is undoubtedly one of the worst in history. Fans believe that Uraume is a wasted character, and the same can be said for Hakari as well, who was considered one of the greatest modern sorcerers, and was considered by Gojo to be a very powerful individual who could one day reach similar levels to him. Yeah J.K. ever get a sequel, maybe justice can be done to Hakari too.
The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on plus sleeve and Shonen Jump apps.
