He House of mourning It is located in the northwest corner of Baldur’s Gate. From Baldur’s Gate Waypoint, look for Lady Jannath’s Estate, shown on the map above. Players are much more likely to have revealed this location than the Grief House. From the farm, you will have to head north towards a small patio, where you will find Arves and the House of Pain.

How to start the House of Grief quests in Baldur’s Gate 3

As mentioned above, there are two quests that task the player with reaching the House of Pain in BG3. The first is Shadowheart’s main quest. Throughout the game, players following her questline will realize that many of Shadowheart’s memories have been stripped from her, leaving her in a perpetual state of uncertainty and confusion. At first, she hides this fact behind a veneer of piety and confidence that makes the player think she is simply a devout follower of Shar. However, as events unfold, cracks begin to appear in the facade. Regardless of which path players take with Shadowheart, when they reach the city of Baldur’s Gate, they will need to visit the House of the Grief.

If players avoid following Shadowheart’s quest entirely, there is another quest that will require a visit to the House of the Grief. Like the Shadowheart house quest, this also requires players to head to Baldur’s Gate. In the northwest corner of the city map, you will find Lady Jannath’s estate. Just after this location, players will encounter an older man named Arves. He has completely lost his memory and after talking to him, the game asks the player to “Investigate the House of Pain.” However, it is unclear what this actually entails.

It is important to note that, for the most part, Shadowheart will be required to complete this quest. Knowing Larian, there’s probably a way to complete the side quest without Shadowheart. However, the fact that she is tied to her location makes it much easier to just carry her around.

When you arrive in Arves, you will be right next to the House of Pain. If you go in with Shadowheart and talk to Mirie at the front desk, they’ll take you to the back without much trouble. But if you enter without Shadowheart, you will have to pay 1000 gold to enter the back room.

Once you enter the back room, sit on the granite bench located directly in the center. Doing this will cause the Mother Superior, Viconia DeVir, to appear. Again, it is much faster to complete this task if Shadowheart is with you. If she is not present, you will have to return to her to enter the cloister. If you head to the corner of the room, an investigation check is performed, which appears to reveal the hidden switch that opens the chamber. This makes it possible to enter without Shadowheart. However, it is a difficult test to pass and is not necessary at all if Shadowheart is with you.

When you reach the main cloister chamber and speak with the Mother Superior, Investigate the House of Pain will be completed. There doesn’t seem to be any solution to the Arves situation.

Shadowheart’s goal in House of Grief is to find his parents, and this is only possible through a fight. If Shadowheart decides to challenge Shar, you will have to fight every Sharran in the building. There are several possible outcomes for Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, but defeating Mother Superior and the rest of the Sharran, as well as deciding what to do with her parents, will end her stay in the House of the Grief for all intents and purposes.
