He Short Course is the first Flag Race run Zelda can attempt. When you first approach the NPC Flag Race, she will automatically start Zelda with the short course.
Short course, explained:
- Basic objective: Less than 23 seconds
- Master objective: Less than 17 seconds
He Short Course has 6 flags and takes place on the track that surrounds the outer edge of the ranch. There will be several obstacles that Zelda must overcome. When you come across a row of boxes that completely block the path, you can trust the horse to jump over them. For the basic objective, use the Run in moderation. Save it only for the open straights. For the Master objective, you will need to have a real idea of when you can use the Dash. For this reason, we include a video on how to master each course, as it is much easier to see it in action.
in it Short Coursethe goal is Dash as soon as the Begin The whistle blows. Then, any chance you have to run on the straight, do it. Avoid cornering at all costs, as you will most likely end up crashing into the fence or stopping dead.

How to Master the Middle Course of the Flag Race – Echoes of Wisdom
Medium Course, Explained
- Basic objective: Less than 25 seconds
- Master goal: Less than 20 seconds
He Medium Course has 5 flagswith an extended path that takes Zelda outside the eastern edge of Hyrule Ranch. This course is actually easier to master and most players should be able to do it in a few tries if they master the short course. The key here is to only use Dash at the right times. There are tighter turns on this course, so players will need to be careful when using Dash when entering the turns. The best way to use Dash here is by exiting the main turns. Watch the full half course in the video above.
The images above show examples of when to use Dash in the middle course. Don’t use it from the starting line, use it after passing the first flag. Use it again on the straight path through the trees, then again after turning towards the box jumps. Finally, use it one more time before turning toward the finish line.
- Middle Course Basic Reward: Prismatic music box (for creating Dampé Automaton)
- Middle Course Teacher Reward: Piece of heart

How to Master the Flag Race Long Course – Echoes of Wisdom
Long course, explained:
- Basic objective: Less than 50 seconds
- Master goal: Less than 40 seconds
The long course has 8 flags and a significantly expanded track that essentially adds the intermediate track to the short track, albeit with different obstacle locations. To see the full course, check out the video guide above.
Strategic Dashing is important again on the long course, but the base objective is also the most forgiving. It’s mastering the final track that can be challenging. Just like the middle track, don’t race until you’ve passed the first flag. Then, wait to run again until you’ve turned the sharp corner after the second flag.
Now you will have to resist the temptation to race until you have passed the next section of the race, specifically after the third flag. Wait until you’ve passed the fifth flag, then run as you turn towards the ranch. Once you get back on the track, the Dash will have to hit the straights, as the corners can be tricky.
- Basic reward: Purple rupee (50)
- Master Reward: Charging Horn (horse up attack)
- Recurring reward: Fresh Milk (Basic x3, Master x5)
