Sonic X Shadow Generations’ Toughest Challenges Ranked

While Sonic X Shadow Generations
Not exactly known for its difficulty, there are quite a few challenge doors that put you in a difficult situation. Usually that’s achieved by imposing a frustrating gimmick, but others have really engaging and cool challenges buried beneath all the mediocre ones.

Sonic X Shadow Generations: Best Levels Ranked

Sonic X Shadow Generations has quite a few amazing levels in both campaigns, and picking favorites is what this list is all about.

Shadow Generations has fewer problems than Sonic, as all the challenges are pretty easy, but there are still a few that will give you a hard time.

If you want to know which parts of these games will make you struggle, these are the few that will test you.

For this list, I’ll be taking into account the Hard Mode challenges in Shadow Generations and talking about the experience of S-ranking these missions, as going for any rank makes each challenge incredibly easy. I’ll also consider the hard mode bosses for a change.

With your combined powers

Final test of the classic.

Alright, I’ll be honest with you. Sonic Generations has some of the easiest S Ranks in the entire series, and Shadow Generations only has a few really difficult ones. I’ve selected about eight S Ranks that I think are really difficult, but these first two only present a slight challenge.

That said, With Your Powers Combined has a decent S rank, which is fun and challenging enough to require a try or two.

It’s appropriate enough to be difficult, given that it’s a test of using all three elemental shields.

in the final stage of Classic Sonic
but if you ask me, it should be a lot harder than it is.

Egg Dragon (Hard)

It’s time for a change of pace!

The first of many hard mode boss fights to make its way onto this list, Egg Dragoon is one of the only ones with a very notable set of changes.

He takes a new attack in the open phase, the rails are harder to move due to some fun spike placements, and he can take quite a few more hits.

That said, because Sonic Generations is always so generous with its S rank requirements, you only need to beat the boss without dying to secure it.

That’s not too difficult, as there isn’t much in the way of instakills or difficult platforming, but due to the need for near perfection in some areas, it may prove to be a tough test for some.

8

Aim and shoot with Chaos Spear! (Hard)

Moving up the ranks.

Here comes the first of these challenges that I would consider moderately challenging. In this mission you will have to traverse rails, avoid enemies and launch dozens of Chaos Spears at targets.

This level of multitasking can be hard on the brain and you have to do it all while doing your best to go fast. You know, Sonic staples.

Despite the delisting, Sega Original Sonic Generations will be available in a Sonic bundle

The time limit isn’t too strict, so as long as you don’t take the scenic rail route, you should be able to do it in a few tries. It’s still incredibly fun to play this level quickly, even if it’s not technically necessary to do every possible optimization.

7

Be careful with the rotating tines! (Hard)

Slipping through difficult situations.

If you played Sonic Forces and, for some strange reason, really wanted Sunset Heights in Shadow Generations to have more nasty item spam charm, this stage is for you.

It has a lot of spinning spikes, difficult-to-dodge obstacles, and some enemy locations that pressure you to take unnecessary risks.

It’s actually well designed.

despite the Mario Maker-style appearance
a pretty decent challenge as you have to avoid each spike and only get a few rings to do it.

You also have to choose between more time or more rings, so if you want range or survivability, that’s up to you.

6

Perfect Chaos (Hard)

Danger, rising water.

Unlike most of the other “hard” bosses in Sonic Generations, Perfect Chaos presents a decent challenge. That is, you have to advance on precarious pieces of pavement, and the slightest slip means instant death.

Dying is usually not a problem due to the numerous checkpoints, but you need to do everything in one go for S rank.

Of course, this is unfortunately offset by Sonic Generations’ tendency to award free S ranks once you’ve beaten the level, so the challenge of avoiding dying is all there is.

This is the only boss that is actually difficult to do, so it at least earns its spot on this list.

5

Vector: Keep the rhythm

A real crime.

The last Sonic Generations entry on this list, which thankfully no longer erases your save data, the famous “Stupid Vector Mission” is quite difficult.

It has you bouncing a musical note between you and the Crocodile, and it can get quite hectic and challenging.

This is mainly because to get S rank, you must be in front of Vector and know the exact direction the note will be sent on each hit.

This makes it more of a rigid and unpleasant memorization game, and execution is also often difficult due to the delicate location attack. It earns its place here, even if it’s largely unfair.

4

Mephiles (difficult)

Leaning on the towers

Because Sonic is a fraud and gets most S ranks for free, Shadow has to pick up the slack by making all of his boss fights have strict rank requirements.

That being said, Mephiles is the easiest of the Hard Mode fights, as it mainly forces you to do the entire fight without taking any damage to earn the coveted S rank.

However, this is no easy task, as each clone, big attack, or random shockwave can end the race instantly.

As a tip, remember to press the attack button until he teleports 3 times, then try to do the fatal explosion to deal a little more damage before each attack. After that, just don’t mess up the S too much.

3

Chaos Control Master (Hard)

All this for 25 seconds.

You might be wondering why an incredibly short level is harder than the game’s penultimate boss, and it’s a fair question. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine.

This challenge has you go through a portion of Act 2 of Rail Canyon with the entire stage falling apart, and you must make incredibly good use of Chaos Control to earn S rank.

A Sonic Riders remaster is exactly what 2024 needs

There has been a dearth of Jet the Hawk content over the past two decades.

This requirement is strict. Even my best race, where I did everything perfectly, was only five seconds away from losing that S.

It’s also an incredibly fun and sick challenge, and thanks to the short duration and cool Emerald Chaos tricks, you won’t mind trying again and again to achieve perfection here.

2

Biolizard (difficult)

Never lose your confidence

While the actual hard mode additions of giving you very few rings and adding a few extra attacks don’t change much, they still gave the Biolizard an incredibly difficult S rank in this form.

This boss fight asks you to play perfectly to get that shiny rank, and it’s pretty cool.

First, jump with each attack because any shockwave means death, and second, preserve your Chaos Control to hit the arms and destroy them instantly.

It’s manageable, sure, but one mistake means you won’t get that rank, so I hope you like restarting to get the perfect run.

Simple curiosity.

Potentially one of the hardest S-ranks since Unleashed, Metal Overlord requires you to be perfect, so I hope you like Doom Surf.

Aside from Hard Mode, which adds a ton of obstacles to the arena and gives you a pretty robust health bar, S Rank is so strict that you can’t even play slightly suboptimal.

My only real tips and tricks are to constantly hit back at any pieces you see in the water, make sure you land as many hits as possible using rainbow rings or Chaos Control, and avoid getting hit.

There’s not much else you can do to secure an S besides upgrade, and it’s certainly the biggest challenge this pack has to offer.
