Sonic the hedgehog It is primarily a video game series at its core, but after multiple television shows (including some anime series), comics, and a film trilogy, it can also be considered a successful multimedia franchise. These various iterations tend to differ greatly from each other, often introducing different interpretations of the characters and, more generally, completely separate continuities.

Additionally, many characters are completely invented for these adaptations, with there is no counterpart in games to talk about. Despite their lack of connection to canon, many of these characters are still very appealing, which helps broaden the scope of what exactly the Sonic the series can be.

Zonic The police of the area

This hedgehog serves as a counterpart to Sonic from Archie Comics. He exists in a parallel dimension known as Zone No, which is 90 degrees from each parallel zone. He is sent to monitor different realities, often appearing sideways due to the angle of his home zone. He often recruits Sonic for various missions related to alternate realities.

ZonicDespite being its most prominent member, he is far from the only one area police. There are other counterparts to the main characters, such as Zespio, Zector, and Zouge, all acting as part of the force in various capacities. There is even a Zobotnik Guardian who, like his main counterpart, dislikes Zonic, despite being a colleague of his in this Zone.

Cosmos

Appears in: Sonic X

Cosmos He was a supporting character in the third and final season of sonic x (2003-2006), an anime series partially based on sonic adventure games. She was a plant-like alien who was the target of Metarex, an organization of cyborgs seeking to wipe out all life in the galaxy that is not plant life. Cosmo was eventually rescued by Sonic and his friends, whom she asked for help in eliminating the organization. She steadily builds a relationship with the group, becoming particularly close to Miles “Tails” Prower.

Unfortunately, Cosmo decided he needed to sacrifice himself to stop the Metarex. The person who helped her in this endeavor was a tearful Tails, who needed more convincing to agree to the plan. Despite his death, Sonic was able to recover Cosmo’s heart in seed form. Later, Tails put Cosmo’s heart in a pot and took care of it as he began to grow.

Mammoth Tycoon

Appears in: Sonic The Hedgehog (Archie Comics)

This Mobian Mammoth is a long-lived villain who gains most of his power from a Chaos Emerald that was fused with him. From here, he acquired intelligence, longevity, and various abilities that he would use throughout his life. He has a tendency to see other beings as inferior to him, although his own plans often end in failure, often due to Sonic’s involvement.

While he remained an antagonistic force in the series in his various appearances, Mammoth Tycoon decided to end his pursuit of active villainy. This was the result of repeated defeats against Sonic, which made him see the Hedgehog as unbeatable. Instead, he preferred to wait for Sonic to come out until he was dead or in a particularly vulnerable state. There is also an alternate future version of Mammoth Mogul from the doomed Silver the Hedgehog timeline. Here, he is a remorseful mentor who helps Silver and seems to deeply regret not having helped prevent the catastrophe that befell Mobius.

Agent Stone

Appears in: Sonic The Hedgehog (Movie Series)

Dr. Ivo Robotnik is no stranger to companions from different continuities. Few of them are as memorable in recent years as Agent Stone (played by Lee Majdoub). He was introduced as Robotnik’s assistant in Sonic the hedgehog (2020) while the good doctor worked as an operative for the United States government. Stone’s role in the film was expanded when Jim Carrey improvised his own version of Robotnik a bit more. From there, he became a prominent character, and even received his own promotional poster for the film’s sequel. Stone is noted for his love and devotion to Robotnik, remaining loyal to him long after he was thrown into space.

After Robotnik’s return in Sonic the hedgehog 2 (2022), Stone is excited and even makes a latte with custom art of him and the doctor, complete with swirling hearts. Stone is shown to be quite intelligent on his own, although he is clearly not as intelligent as Robotnik, and it is possible that Stone’s admiration for Robotnik has something to do with his superior intellect.

This squirrel princess debuted in the relatively short-lived cartoon series, Sonic the hedgehog (1993-1994), the second produced by DiC after The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). Both cartoons had some similarities, such as Jaleel White’s voice as the main character, but Sonic the hedgehog introduced numerous changes. The story now focuses on a ragtag group, known as The Freedom Fighters, who confront Robotnik, who now controls a dystopian industrial city known as Robotropolis.

sally acorn was the leader of The Freedom Fighters, a foil for Sonic and also an occasional love interest. She is known for her strategic acumen and his strong personality, and tends to prefer a calculated approach to Sonic’s more reckless behavior. Although the cartoon only ran for a little over a year, it became the basis for one of the longest-running Archie Comics, which shared its name. Although the comic gradually changed to take more inspiration from the games, Sally remained a major character in the series until it was discontinued in 2017. Technically, Sally was in a video game. sonic ball, but this minor entry remains his only appearance in the medium.
