Fans know that Imu will be incredibly important in the Final Saga, and a lot of that comes down to the fact that he is, in many ways, the series’ ultimate antagonist. Imu was first revealed during the Reverie Arc, where Oda showed that he was actually a person sitting on top of the Empty Throne. Since then, Oda has been slowly rebuilding things around this character, and now it’s Final Saga’s turn to reveal details about Imu, his powers, and pretty much everything fans need to know about him. Of course, since he is the ultimate antagonist, special attention must be paid to his powers, which fans have already seen hints of in the story.
Imu’s hinted powers
Imu has the powers of a Yokai
When Imu was introduced as the ultimate antagonist of One Piece, fans knew he was going to be very strong. Of course, there were some people who believed that Imu was just going to be a figurehead with no real power, but with a military presence under his command that would make him very strong. However, this notion was shattered by Oda in Final Saga. This is simply because fans also had a similar belief regarding the Five Elders. However, Egghead Island made it quite clear that the Elders are actually very powerful people who can be compared to people like Yonko. They can hold their own against Yonko-level individuals and, above all, appear immortal. The Elders completely tip the scales in the world of One Piece when it comes to strength, and even more than that, they introduce abilities whose mechanics fans simply don’t know as of yet.
What light will go out in the world, oh great Imu?
Similar logic should also apply to Imu, who is even a step above the Elders. The fact that the Elders go ahead and bow to Imu means that they are indebted to him and at the same time inferior to him in many ways. As such, fans know that Imu will likely have similar powers and abilities that will really surprise those of the Elders. This makes for an exciting reveal later on, and Imu will be pivotal to the final saga in many ways, especially after the conclusion of the Egghead Island arc, where the final players of this final One Piece saga now head. May Oda constantly stand out.
Imu’s Immortality
Imu cannot die due to a mysterious reason
When it comes to Imu’s powers, fans know that her immortality is an ability that will get most of the attention. While it has not been explicitly confirmed that Imu is immortal, there is speculation among characters in the story that she possesses the power of immortality. For example, Imu bears the same name as an individual from before the Void Century, named Saint Imu Nerona. This information was provided to fans by none other than Ivankov, who clearly mentioned that this individual is somewhat interesting. However, now this person stands on top of the world.
The fact that he has remained alive for over 800 years clearly implies that he carries the power of immortality. Of course, there are many ways to achieve immortality in One Piece, but Ivankov ties his immortality to the Ope Open no Mi. This means that long ago there was a doctor who performed the Perennial Youth Surgery on Imu and granted him the powers of immortality. What’s more, there may be something more to it than that. There is actually more than one Ope Ope no Mi ability that fans know Doflamingo highlighted. The first is Perennial Youth Surgery, but the second is Personality Exchange. It’s possible that Imu really is immortal, but the body he’s currently in might not be his own. Imu could be in a different body right now, and a popular idea we’ve shared here at Game Rant is that this body could be that of Nefertari Lily.

Doflamingo still has a role to play in One Piece, specifically in the final saga of the series.
Anyway, what fans can say for sure is that Imu is immortal. If fans needed more confirmation of that, then they simply need to take a look at the Five Elders. These Elders are incredibly powerful and can certainly fight against the likes of Yonko, as confirmed in the Egghead Island Arc. But what sets them apart is the fact that they simply cannot die, or at least there is no way to permanently exterminate them, at least for now.
No matter how hard they are hit or how much damage they take, Elders keep coming back as if fresh, even when their enemies tire. Luffy gave up fighting them in a prolonged battle because he understood that he couldn’t do anything to them in the grand scheme of things. As such, there is absolutely no reason for fans to believe that Imu doesn’t have the same ability as well.
Imu’s Devil Fruit Ability
Imu has special powers that resemble a devil fruit
Above all, fans also know that Imu has a unique devil fruit power. Of course, in the case of the Five Elders, the special powers they possess are not labeled as Devil Fruits, but as Yokai abilities. In Imu’s case, it could be something similar. Imu likely has a Yokai power instead of a Devil Fruit power. At the same time, Imu’s power will be opposite to Luffy’s, meaning he will belong to darkness. Of course, then, Blackbeard is also thrown into the mix, since she has Yami Yami no Mi, which is a dark devil fruit.
As such, Imu’s powers cannot be similar to Blackbeard’s. However, his powers may be those of a creature that devours everything and causes chaos and utter misery. That would be the exact opposite of Luffy, who spreads laughter and joy wherever he goes. Fans still don’t know much about Imu’s true powers, but they do know that he transforms into a strange creature, like the Elders.
It appears that the creature has four legs and a spiked tail with which it can skewer enemies, as seen when it attacked Sabo and King Cobra. Fans will have to wait to see what this creature is. But it is undoubtedly an awakened mythical ability that will likely have deep ties to Yokai tradition while also having powers that surpass even those of the Elders.
One Piece is available to read through Viz Media. Fans can read the series officially and for free on Shonen Jump and on plus sleeve application. The release date of the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1123, will be August 18, 2024.
