Space Marines have some of the widest arsenal of weapons to choose from in the galaxy, with many of those weapons being available to players in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. It has been confirmed that many if not all weapons can be customizable in various game modes, although the full extent of that system is still to be seen.
Every weapon has its own purpose, with some being better at killing different types of enemies. Players will be facing both Tyranids and Thousand Sons in Space Marine 2, and using the right weapon for the job will be key.

Utility
Special Tools For Special Situations
- Various grenades to take care of swarms.
- Jump Packs to greatly increase mobility.
Along with a primary and secondary weapon, Space Marines will have additional items or gear that will be used in combat, such as Jump Packs, Grenades, and Combat Knives. The combat knife has been shown as a main-hand weapon wielded with a pistol, but its exact use in combat beyond being used for finishers has yet to be seen.
Jump Packs let Space Marines fly in combat, either to get a better angle or launch themselves from above straight into an enemy. While there are many grenades in the Space Marine arsenal, so far only Krak Grenades have been shown in the game, which act as a fairly normal grenade that is great for dealing with groups of small enemies.

Bolt Pistol
A Hand-Held Bolter
- The one-handed option for a Bolter.
- Great side arm that pairs well with the Chainsword.
Bolt Pistols carry the same ammunition as a regular Bolter, which is a .75 caliber rocket-propelled shot, which also then explodes after impact on the target. With a Bolt Pistols smaller size, they carry much less ammunition than a rifle, but can still be very deadly.
Bolt Pistols seem to be a secondary weapon and a weapon used to hit vulnerable enemies for an execution. Bolt Pistols also have a three-round burst fire feature, though this has yet to be shown in game.
9
Plasma Pistol
Melt Through Armor With A Hand-Held Weapon
- Higher damage than Bolt Pistol.
- May be dangerous to use when overcharging the shot.
The Plasma Pistol is the smallest Plasma weapon that fires a condensed beam of heated Plasma strong enough to eat through the thickest of armor. Plasma weapons are able to be overcharged to deal increased damage but also come with the chance of hurting those who are wielding them.
Overall a Plasma Pistol tends to be the better side arm choice for a Space Marine, with it able to deal much more damage. Though against a swarm of Tyranid gaunts, the Bolt Pistol may prove superior due to the magazine capacity and fire rate.
8
Flamer
Burn The Xenos Swarms Easily
- Wide area-of-effect for low damage.
- Melts smaller enemies and excels when they charge at the player.
Flamers are massive flamethrowers that are great and burn away large swarms of Xenos such as the Termagants and Hormagaunts of the Tyranids swarm. This weapon is large and requires two hands to wield even with the strength of a Space Marine.
While they are great for dealing with smaller enemies, Flamers aren’t the best for dealing with larger creatures with stronger armor and would be hit-or-miss against the heretical Thousand Sons Space Marines.
7
Sniper Rifle
Take Out High-Value Targets From A Distance
- Used by stealth-focused Space Marines.
- Best against larger single-target enemies.
Sniper Rifles have a few variations and are usually wielded by the scouts of a Space Marine chapter. The Sniper Rifles wielded by Space Marines are much like Bolters but come with various types of ammunition to help them take down specific targets instead of a versatile round like regular Bolter ammunition.
There are many variations of the Astartes Snipers, making this a prime weapon for customization in the game. When facing a Tyranids swarm, snipers can excel in taking down the larger creatures to sever the synaptic connection to the lesser creatures, breaking their attack and making the rest of a fight much easier.
6
Heavy Bolter
Heavy Fire For Massive Enemies & Swarms
- Bigger and better than the base bolter.
- Should be used further back than the front lines.
The Heavy Bolter is a straight upgrade on the regular Bolter, requiring two hands to shoot its larger caliber shots. Unlike the usual .75-caliber shots, the Heavy Bolter fires a 1.00 round and has a large magazine making it closer to a heavy machine gun than an assault rifle.
The higher fire rate, magazine capacity, and caliber shot make this an ideal weapon for dealing with most enemies, though a Space Marine will lose a lot of their mobility due to the weight of the weapon.
5
Power Sword & Combat Shield
Versatile In Offense & Defense
- Players can use a sword, pistol, and shield.
- Great for melee fights against bigger enemies.
A Power Sword may seem like a regular sword, but once activated, is coated in an energy aura that lets it cut through just about anything with ease. Unlike Force Swords, a Power Sword can be used by any Space Marine and is often more effective than a chainsword.

Combat Shields offer nothing very special in terms of defense, but attach to a Space Marines arm leaving their off-hand to still be available for another weapon. In trailers it is shown players will be able to wield a pistol offhand, making this loadout very versatile for ranged and melee combat.
4
Melta
Melt Even The Toughest Enemies
- Short-range with incredibly high damage.
- Two-handed weapon that slows down the Space Marine.
Meltas are short-ranged sub-atomic heat weapons that are easily one of the most deadly weapons in the Space Marine arsenal. While they are meant for close range, the heat these weapons produce can melt through the side of a tank with ease and will make short work of just about any Tyranid you face.
Meltas come in various forms, with a common one being the multi-melta that is usually found on vehicles instead of being carried by a Space Marine like the regular Meltas. While many Tyanids will come charging straight for you, the Melta is a great option to quickly burn them to a crisp, since they will make sure they are within its range.
3
Thunder Hammer
Heavy Melee With Powerful Area Of Effect
- Knockdown even the biggest enemies.
- Great for sweeping swarms of gaunts.
Thunder Hammers are massive two-handed hammers usually wielded by Terminators and the occasional regular Space Marine. These hammers are not only massive but have an energy field emitter in the head that explodes whenever contact is made, adding to the damage done by the hit.
Thunder Hammers are offensively-focused weapons, and focus on killing your enemies before they have a chance to make you worry about defense. While the main impact from the hammer is good against single strong enemies, the following explosion makes it a great area-of-effect attack to deal with swarms of gaunts.
2
Bolter
The Basic Space Marine Rifle Good For Any Task
- Versatile with various attachments
- High damage and fire rate.
The Bolter is the most common weapon used by Space Marines and is very customizable depending on the role of the user. Bolters fire rocket-propelled explosive shots that devastate just about anything they hit.

1
Chainsword
Cut Through Any Enemy Of Humanity
- Sweeping attacks to deal with groups of enemies.
- Vulnerable enemies can be executed with the Chainsword.
The Chainsword is exactly what it sounds like, able to cut through even the power armor of another Space Marine. With the strength of a Space Marine, the Chainsword is able to cut through multiple enemies with only a single swing, making it ideal for dealing with the swarms of the Tyranids.
In Space Marine 2, it seems as though players will always have a melee option available, with the most common choice being the Chainsword. Against large Tyranids like Tyranid Warriors, this weapon can be used defensively to parry an incoming Bonesword and leave the enemy vulnerable to an execution.
