This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268 was released today and it is safe to say that this chapter surprised many fans. This is simply because the battle between Sukuna and Yuji ended, but not in the way fans expected.
The episode was certainly a disappointing ending to the final fight of the series, but at the same time, it also touched on some touching interactions that fans certainly came to appreciate. J.K. Chapter 268 was a mixed bag, and is sure to divide opinion among fans.
Sukuna’s desperate attempt to cling to life

Sukuna dies cursing Yuji
The beginning of the chapter caused a big surprise to fans in Jujutsu Kaisen 268. This is simply because from the beginning, fans saw Sukuna conversing with Megumi, which many readers did not expect. Most fans had assumed that Yuji’s battle against the King of Curses would continue for a bit longer, even if it ended in the same chapter. The blow that fans saw in J.K. Most fans assumed that chapter 267 was the penultimate one, because it lacked intensity, severity, and at the same time, it simply didn’t have the climactic ending that fans expected it to be. Precisely for that reason J.K. Chapter 268 was a big shock for fans. Essentially, at the beginning of the chapter, Sukuna desperately tried to hold on to Megumi.
Give up and let me do the rest! – Ryomen Sukuna
In a moment of exchange between the two souls of these characters, fans were able to see Sukuna tell Megumi that she was a shame for having fallen so low and destroying any chance of living a proud life. He allowed himself to be taken over by the King of Curses, murdered his own sister, his own sensei and, at the same time, saved Yuji, who indiscriminately massacred thousands of people. This was a clear sign that Sukuna was trying to manipulate Megumi, break her will, and take over her body. However, Megumi clearly realized what Sukuna was doing and told him that it wouldn’t work. She wanted to give him one more chance at life, especially since Yuji went to such great lengths to save him.
Basically, Megumi told Sukuna that he would only have one finger left and that wouldn’t be enough to hold his soul. Basically, Megumi was pushing him right here, and that didn’t bode well for him at all. Sukuna was just desperately trying to hold on to Megumi so he could defend himself against her, but it was a failed attempt. At the end of things, Sukuna was successfully torn from Megumi’s body and Yuji accomplished what was considered impossible.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen the way fans wanted and was largely anticlimactic. There are many reasons why this ended the way it did. And it can be safely assumed that Gege’s deteriorating health was also one of the main reasons. However, at the end of the day, there were many chapters that simply didn’t need to be in the story, and many repetitive situations in Shinjuku Showdown over and over again. Unfortunately, what fans can say is that Yuji vs. Sukuna was a disappointing battle that didn’t live up to the standard set by Sukuna vs. Gojo. Regardless, the battle ended in Yuji’s favor, and while that’s great, the ending wasn’t how fans expected it to be.
The end of Ryomen Sukuna Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268
Yuji looked down at Sukuna as he disintegrated.
Ryomen Sukuna finally fell in JJK chapter 268. This came as a big surprise to fans, not because it shouldn’t have happened, but because of the way it happened. Sukuna was left behind in a pathetic slimy mess after Yuji handed him the last black flash. After being separated from Megumi by Yuji, he saw Sukuna cowering in fear. For the first time he felt fear inside of him. He was sweating profusely upon seeing Yuji looking at him, and this was a good call back to the beginning of the story, where Sukuna told him not to admire him.
Now, it was Yuji looking down on him, and the parallel was certainly a nice one for fans to enjoy. At the same time, Sukuna desperately tried to hold on to something, but he knew that he was at the end of his life.
Yuji, however, was not ready to give up. After all, Yuji is a person full of compassion, even towards people like Sukuna. Yuji knew that curses should not be eradicated but rather lived alongside them and of course this idea may not be the brightest but it is the approach he ended up taking in the end. Yuji desperately tried to beg Sukuna to come back to him and live alongside him, giving humanity a chance for once. But Sukuna stayed true to his title of King of Curses and told Yuji that he praises him for being able to keep up the charade until the end. Sukuna warned him not to look down on him since he is a curse after all and essentially disintegrated.
Don’t look down on me… I’m a curse!! -Ryomen Sukuna
At the same time, fans also got to see Hakari against Uraume and this fight was the biggest disappointment of the entire Shinjuku Showdown. Fans didn’t even get to see an important panel in this battle. Hakari versus Uraume ended without fans even getting to see a proper exchange. After seeing Sukuna fall, Uraume simply gave up and ended his life, disintegrating into pieces of ice. This is how the Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen ended and fans were left with mixed feelings. While it was nice to see Megumi and Nobara return, the actual ending of the Arc, namely the battle between Sukuna and Yuji, was largely disappointing, as were all of the smaller battles in the arc.
The aftermath of the battle between Yuji Itadori and Ryomen Sukuna
The three main characters meet once again
J.K. Chapter 268 also gave fans an insight into the post-war events. Long story short, Megumi finally woke up and the three of them were together again after a long time. Nobara talked about how they should be surprised and cry with joy after seeing her return, while Megumi was simply in disbelief at what happened.
Fans also got to see two letters from Gojo to Nobara and Megumi, and in each case, it was to inform them of key facts about their lives. For Nobara, it was the whereabouts of her mother, along with information about what she does. For Megumi, it was information about her father, whom she killed, and with that she fulfilled her promise.
This, once again, is confused with what Gojo said when he died. In JJK chapter 236, Gojo clearly regretted not telling Megumi about her father and gave the responsibility to Shoko. Here, it was revealed that he had actually planned to give Shoko a letter to give to Megumi, which then conflicts with what was established earlier in the manga. Regardless, it was certainly a good time, and now, the focus must be on other contenders in Shinjuku, like Yuta, whose fate remains unknown.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read through Viz Media. Fans can read the series officially and for free on Shonen Jump and on plus sleeve application. The release date of JJK’s next chapter, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 269, will be September 15, 2024.
